Parent coaching sessions are designed to help caregivers develop the skills, insight, and confidence to support their child’s emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. These sessions are often part of a larger therapeutic plan for the child, the family, or both. These sessions improve parent-child communication and emotional connection. We discuss situations specific to the family and I teach effective behavior management and discipline strategies according to the family’s needs. We work on reducing family conflict and increasing cooperation at home. I work with parents to help them understand underlying causes of their child’s behaviors (e.g., anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or mood disorders). In addition, supporting parents in setting consistent routines and expectations as well as empowering parents to model healthy coping and emotional regulation is important.
